The villages are the southernmost in Abu Dhabi and the UAE. The border with Saudi Arabia is around 16 to 35 km away. The closest town to the border is Mahdar Bin Usayyan, and 10 km south of the border is the Shaybah oil facility.
But there needs to be a direct road between Liwa Oasis and Shaybah. A modern highway connects the oasis to Abu Dhabi.
